Weekend Bits & Pieces

Saturday's wedding was gorgeous and the girls were so cute dancing. Ava (in the wedding) kept waving at Audrey during the ceremony. Those two are thick as thick as thieves. Sunday was lots of rest, a trip to the park, and making our pumpkins. A slow day. Can't wait to see how Audrey handles trick-or-treating tonight. She has been practicing her knock-knock jokes. Lindsey said he never heard of kids having to tell a joke before getting their candy until he moved to St. Louis. How do you trick or treat?

Wrapping The Week

No doubt we will be watching game seven of the World Series tonight. Last night's game left me with nothing but nubbins for fingernails. I know. Gross. I'm going to buy a pound of licorice whips and hope for the best tonight. This has been a great diversion from a very intense week at work. I'm drowning. I just feel completely out of it on so many levels. Hoping for some kind of breakthrough soon.

Finally! I can stop writing on my hands.

I thought this article on authenticity was interesting.

Incredible book art.

This house looks dreamy. And what a treehouse!

Awesome idea to encourage poetry.

Cute cloud costume and Mr. & Mrs. Fox.

Yum.

Have a sweet (winning) weekend.
Gooooooooooooooooooooooo Cards!

Guidebook To St. Louis

St. Louis is lucky to have Amanda Doyle as an evangelist, and videographer Bill Streeter to capture the word.

Weddings & Magnolias

My cousin is getting married on Saturday. We've been a little preoccupied with attire over here.

Magnolia
by Gerald Stern

The mayor, in order to marry us, borrowed
a necktie from a lawyer which, on him,
looked stupid and kept his eye on a red pigeon
which somehow got in to coo her disappointment,
if only for the record, though one of the two
witnesses who kicked the red got only what
she deserved and that was that, except that the
rain cooed too, but we didn't give a shit
for we had a bed, for God's sake, with two tin buckets
of blossoms waiting for us; and someone there
of Greek persuasion enacted the dancing though somewhat
lickerish and turned to reading the names of the dead
from World War I the other side of the bandstand
but we didn't care nor did we know her name
nor where she came from or what the necktie or what
our love had to do with it anyhow, mostly nothing.

Making Sense

I love this so much on so many different levels.

Wrapping The Week

We've been watching a little of the World Series this week and Audrey cheers for our home team, "Go Birdies!" I think mostly she is just excited because we've let her stay up 30 minutes later than usual. Halloween party this weekend, plus sifting through dozens of paint chips. The whole downstairs is getting painted in a couple of weeks. Woot! Work is kicking my butt and I'm ready for the weekend. Here are some finds from this week:

This little DIY mask is crazy fun.

Mashed Potato Bacon Pizza. Yes, please.

Cloudette is a new favorite of ours. Cute illustrations and story.

Seems everyone is doing dots these days, but I do love this website's artwork.

I've quilted with this photo process before. But this really looks fun!

I remember this being one of my favorite parts of Bossypants too.

Starting to look for 2012 calendars and can't decide, but will probably go somewhat local.

A sweet tune for your weekend.

Miss Representation

It isn't very often that I regret not having cable, but I am pretty sore about missing this documentary on OWN tonight.

Lisa Hannigan

I love this song. And getting splashed with paint wouldn't bother me a bit. The "filming of" video is fun too.

Occupy

Writer Francine Prose had this poignant take on Occupy Wall Street.

Below are some of my favorite images from what has been happening.

Weekend Bits & Pieces

Chili Cook-Off Results: party was fun but we brought home no awards. We consoled ourselves on Sunday with a trip to the zoo and leftovers. I have enough bread puddings for next week's Halloween Party. Woot! More pictures.

Wrapping The Week

We are going to the 11 Annual Dewes Family Chili Cook-Off on Saturday. Oh, how I covet the winner's belt! I began marinating my chili ingredients last night. In addition to chili, there is a prize for best dessert. I'm entering that as well, but what I'm making is a secret. Results posted on Monday. The aprons are going to get a work out in the next 36 hours.

These pumpkins are ridiculously gorgeous, but I think I like these better.

Sitcom art.

Fun vintage photobooth shot.

Sewing inspiration. More quilt, less guilt.

I love this woman with a large book.

And oh, the shoes I blogged about on Tuesday—more everything than I ever imagined. Love them.

The moon and the stars to you this weekend.

Creative Space

{source unknown}

I've lamented before that I've never felt really settled in this house. We are feeling the itch to move stronger than ever before. I have someone coming this week to give us an estimate on painting the downstairs and we've been trolling neighborhoods and real estate sites for months. In this market, who knows what will happen.

Not having a space of my own to make art has impacted me more than I've wanted to acknowledge. So the next house has to have some kind of studio space, preferably on the same floor where Audrey will be doing most of her playing and we will be doing most of our living. I am keen on the idea of a huge room where I could have my creative stations housed, Lindsey could have his guitars, and Audrey could have music and art suppliesso we could all be zoning out creatively together. But the idea of exposing visitors to our mess makes me cringe. So maybe a basement or attic space. I really like this garage turned into studio space.

While I'd like to have something like this, or like this, or like this this is what my last studio looked like. (But I loved it!) Have you carved out a space for yourself?

Fall 2011

A little something called fall.
Shoes are ordered. Appointment made for new glasses. Scarf and vintage jewelry, I have.
Now, if I could just find a coat in this color and a little less old lady.

Weekend Bits & Pieces

Three parks and two picnics in two days. Trying to squeeze as much outside time in before time and weather changes. Sunday we went to Bee Tree Park which overlooks the Mississippi. So glad we made the trek out there.

Wrapping The Week

This weekend I will be trying out some recipes in anticipation for next week's 11th Annual Chili and Dessert Cook-Off. Although I'm not feeling particularly competitive this year. In fact, I'm frazzled. I tried two new recipes tonight and they were both kind of a bust. My mojo is off. So I may just do a chili and call it a day. Or a weekend. Or whatever. I have Halloween costumes to contend with. (Yes, that is me in the middle as Rosie Robot.)

These vintage tops are so cool.

This illustrated story of the public library warms my heart.

These apple fritters look delicious...and so in season.

Note to self.

Cutest. Pillow. Ever.

I love this wallpaper and its story.

Gorgeous florals.

Ami bonne journée.
